Swimming in the borderlands between drawing and painting, Bernd Ribbeck (born 1974 in Cologne) approaches his small-scale works with the measured observation of an art historian and the passion of an artist inspired by a world that lies on the edge of the unknown. Ribbeck’s compositions recall the stained glass of innumerable church windows, evoking in their geometric abstraction a new form of spirituality that is as ancient as it is contemporary, as based in the secular codes of modernism as it is in the intangible and the divine.
Ribbeck works on MDF and paper using acrylic paint, ballpoint pen, marker, and varnish, combining these materials in a unique process whereby areas are painted, scratched away, and then painted again—a painstaking technique that yields glorious depth and luminosity in his final works. Included in the Art 38 Basel’s Art Statements, exhibitions across Europe including a 2015 solo show at Galerie Peter Kilchmann Zurich, and with an upcoming show at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen, Ribbeck is certainly an artist to watch.

Untitled, 2011 is a very special piece in Bernd Ribbeck’s oeuvre—this work represents the artist’s first move into the medium of etching. Created using two plates and two printing colors, Untitled, 2011 maintains much of the depth and luminosity that Ribbeck’s unique process of acrylic and ink lends to his other works, all the while upholding his signature, geometric aesthetic.
A spherical overlay of red and green that forms a trio of colors wherever the two mix, Untitled, 2011 was produced as two distinct—yet complimentary—versions of the same work. Printed in an extremely limited run of just 20 pieces in each colorway and signed and numbered on the front, Amazing Editions is pleased to offer these unusual works both as a set as well as individually, available both framed and unframed, to bring Ribbeck’s thought-provoking window into the abstract to your collection.
