Gerold Miller has taken a bold approach to both color and image throughout his decades-long career. Working between the boundaries of sculpture, painting, and architecture, the German minimalist and conceptualist seeks to transcend the restrictive functions of art, reducing the image to its limits so that what remains is, in his own words, an “image without an image.” His wall-mounted aluminum works are painted with car lacquer to achieve a reflective transition of color and spacial fields—their gleaming, saturated surfaces holding up a mirror to their environment while nodding to West Coast Abstraction and Neo Geo influences.
Miller was born in Altshausen, Germany in 1961 and is based in Berlin. He has exhibited extensively since the mid-90s, including shows at the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin, Kunsthalle Weishaupt Ulm, Krobath Vienna, Cassina Projects New York. His works are held in the collections of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art Humblebaek, Berlinische Galerie, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Deutsche Bank AG, Société Générale Paris and others.

The Siebdruck series is based on the Set series, an on-going project for Miller that began in 2012. The influence of hard-edge painting is clear – the implementation modern in his choice of strikingly bold hues and reduced conceptual compositions. Magnificently transporting the feel of his three-dimensional wall works onto paper, his signature approach to color and spatial fields is carried over into clean, quiet geometry.
Created through a sophisticated combination of silkscreening and offset printing for the shadow elements, the individual works in the Siebdruck series are limited editions of 50 pieces each. This brand new selection of prints dates from 2017 and is available exclusively from Amazing Editions, both individually and as a set of ten. Large enough to stand alone, yet small enough to easily hang alongside other works, the print series offers a wonderful opportunity to acquire a rare, printed work by this fascinating artist.
